Abstract:Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, ideological and political education has been developing to a comprehensive and strategic level, playing an increasingly prominent role in the governance of the Party and the country. Accordingly, this discipline has been developed in a more scientific and systematic manner. In this sense, this paper, from a bibliometric perspective, establishes a database of 3,788 relevant articles published between 2012 and 2023 in three CSSCI journals namely Ideological and Political Education Research, Ideological and Theoretical Education, and Ideological and Theoretical Education Guide. Then, this paper analyzes the status quo and research trends based on publication timelines, core authors and their affiliations, evolutionary stages, keyword co-occurrence, and highly cited literature, while summarizing key domains such as ontology, axiology, methodology, carrier theory, curriculum theory, discourse theory, and disciplinary development. It is observed that the discipline of ideological and political education has achieved a more robust framework, diversified research methods, and increasing specialization in the new era. In the new journey, it is essential to adopt a systemic approach to promote the innovative development of the discipline system, academic system, and discourse system of ideological and political education studies as a whole, thus constructing an independent knowledge system with distinctive Chinese characteristics, style, and spirit.
